Climate change is the most pressing threat to our Town, and protecting Corte Madera from flooding and fire will always be a top priority of mine. Of course, there are two facets to addressing that threat: mitigation, which means reducing our part in causing climate change, and adaptation, which means preparing for the effects of climate change that are already happening or inevitable.
The Climate Action Plan is the Town's blueprint for the mitigation side of this equation, and is full of strategies and goals for reducing Corte Madera's carbon footprint and ultimately reversing our role in contributing to climate change. It's one of the most important guiding documents our Town has created, but since the scientific understanding of climate change and the facts on the ground are always changing, I voted yes to update our plan with the latest figures and learnings.
