In June, the Marin County Civil Grand Jury released a report encouraging Marin's jurisdictions to phase out the use of fossil fuels in buildings (for example, banning gas appliances in new construction, or working with homeowners to replace gas appliances with electric ones).
It's clear that as long as our buildings continue to rely on fossil fuels, we won't have a serious shot at forestalling the worst effects of climate change, and I wholeheartedly agree that building electrification must happen promptly. While our response to the Grand Jury's report agreed with all their findings, their recommendations were largely duplicative of efforts already underway in Corte Madera and at other cities and the County, and set out unrealistic timeframes for implementation—issues that we addressed in our response.
