Make Public Tennis & Pickleball Courts Free - YES

At our January 21, 2025 meeting, I voted to approve a resolution updating the Parks and Recreation Fee Schedule for the upcoming fiscal year. Most fees remain unchanged, but I was proud to support one important update: I voted to make the Town’s tennis and pickleball courts free for everyone. Until now, the courts were locked, and residents had to pay $35/year for a key. I’ve long felt that’s unfair — residents already pay for our parks through taxes. Why should they pay again to use part of them?
There was also an equity issue: the $35 fee was a bigger burden on lower-income families. I believe everyone should have free access to all our public park amenities. This change might slightly reduce revenue — but it’s a step toward equity and accessibility in our parks, and the people who live, work, and shop in Corte Madera deserve that.
